A THREAD DRAWINGALL THE WORKS ↗
ONE LINE. TWO DRAWINGS.
Through
and Through.
A stitch on the front.
The next on the back.
Choose a hole, then another. One continuous thread makes two different drawings. Turn the paper over with your eyes; decide where to go next.
Two separately started threads can share a card. Open the two-thread desk ↗ to draw, keep and prepare them together. Keep this SVG first to bring its route over.
The starting example passes through holes 1 → 6 → 30 → 25. Use it as a beginning, Undo your changes, or Clear thread to start at any hole.
YOUR DRAWING
One line, two drawings
The odd-numbered stitches.
The even-numbered stitches. The paper is turned over from left to right; the hole numbers stay with it.
A four-hole example is on the paper: 1 → 6 → 30 → 25. Change it, or clear the thread and begin at any hole.
THE NEEDLE IS YOURS
Choose the next hole.
Needle at hole 25, on the back. Your next stitch will be on the back.
4/64 hole passes. Each chosen hole changes the face. Revisit a hole or cross a line whenever you like; a crossing does not make a new pass. Choose a different hole from the one you just used.
Both ends are on the back. You can finish now, or keep drawing.
ONE THREAD, YOUR CHOICES
Give it a name.
The same colour follows the whole thread, on both faces.
Follow the needle · 4 hole passes
Starting tail: hole 1, on the back.
- 1. Front · hole 1 → 6
- 2. Back · hole 6 → 30
- 3. Front · hole 30 → 25
Needle: hole 25, on the back.
Choose one occurrence, including a repeated visit, and review both faces before changing its hole. The other passes stay in order.
Add one hole between two existing passes while keeping all your other hole choices in order. This switches later stitches to the opposite face; review both drawings before inserting.
This is a flat thread drawing. The holes are fixed; no tension, thickness or sewing technique is simulated. The two sides tell you where each part of the line goes.
BOTH SIDES, TOGETHER
Keep the whole thread.
Your SVG includes both drawings and the ordered hole passes. An unfinished thread is welcome too.
KEEP THE DRAWING (SVG) ↓Only the applied drawing is kept. Title drafts, Undo and Redo stay at this desk.
PICK UP THE SAME LINE
Reopen a kept drawing.
Read locally, up to 128 KiB. Review first; your current drawing stays until you choose Replace.
ONE CARD / MANY DRAWINGS
Take it to paper.
Keep a clean card to pierce once, and a separate guide for the thread you want to follow. Choose all thirty centres for other drawings, or only the centres this route uses.
210 × 297 mm · the card itself is always 150 × 130 mm.
All thirty numbered centres. Reuse the card for any route on this desk.
This choice belongs to paper preparation. It is not saved in the editable thread SVG.
Each preparation replaces the ready file. It leaves your drawing, title draft, Undo and Redo alone.
Apply or discard the title draft, or close the current review, before preparing or keeping a paper file. The previews show the applied drawing.
A clean, reusable card.
Thirty numbered centres and one cut boundary. No thread, colour or personal title is printed here.
Your separate stitch guide.
Front, mirrored back and every hole pass, in order. Repeated hole numbers are return visits, not extra holes to pierce.
MAKE ONE PROOF FIRST
One card.
A guide beside it.
The guide is not a second card. Keep it beside your work; do not print it on the reverse or glue the sheets together.
- Print the chosen A4 or US Letter sheet portrait, at actual size / 100%. Turn off fit-to-page. Measure the bar: it should be 50 mm.
- Cut the blank card at its rectangular boundary. Pierce the thirty centres for the needle and thread you have chosen. Keep the triangle at the top.
- Leave the starting tail on the back. Pass 1 comes through to the front; keep following the guide’s numbered passes. A crossing line does not make another hole.
- Finish when both ends are on the back. To make another drawing, unthread the card and follow a new guide. Try one physical proof before making copies.
