WORK 47 / A PAPER WEAVING TABLE

Over
and Under

Management wanted every strip on top.

Give each crossing a different answer. Make a weave from whole strips, turn it over, and keep it to work on another day.

A company sample is on the table. Change its strips, or begin with an empty weave.

The front

A quarter turn clockwise on the side showing. Strip names, widths and every crossing choice stay, including set-aside strips; letter and number codes change.

A place for every strip — frontContinuous vertical and horizontal paper strips with a separate over-and-under choice at each crossing. This is the front of the weave. Lettered vertical strips and numbered horizontal strips correspond to the strip key. Set-aside strips leave their slots empty.ABCDE12345

Letters are vertical strips; numbers are horizontal strips. The dashed outline marks your selection and is left out of the kept file. Each strip continues through the crossings. Its colour and width stay with it.

Horizontal 1 · Monday

Title and strip changes wait together. Apply them as one change, or discard them before moving on.

Keep the strip whole

Copy keeps the name, colour, width and every front crossing. Its new code follows this strip in front order. A set-aside strip’s copy stays set aside.

Setting aside hides the material and keeps its slot, identity and choices. Removal deletes the strip and its crossings.

Over and under

Horizontal 1 · Monday, on the front. Buttons run left to right as you see them. Each names the strip currently above; press it to exchange which is above.

Repeat across this row

Count every reserved slot, including strips set aside. Repeat 1 over, 1 under, beginning with your choice on the side showing.

Repeat this authored row

Use the choices in 1 · Monday as the source. Repeat them into following horizontal rows, in front top-to-bottom order. The source row stays as it is.

Left and right mean the front showing. Each next row shifts one step further from the same source: the second target shifts twice as far. Choices wrap around all reserved vertical slots, including strips set aside.

Targets: 2 · Pause.

Repeat a block of authored rows

Begin with 1 · Monday. Use this row and the next rows as a source block, then repeat their crossing choices in order into the rows immediately after the block. The source rows stay as they are.

Source block, first to last: 1 · Monday; 2 · Pause.

Targets, first to last: 3 · Lunch ← source 1.

0 complete repetitions, then the first 1 row of the block once more. No shift is applied.

Rows always follow the front’s top-to-bottom order, including strips set aside. Every reserved vertical slot keeps the same strip identity. Showing the reverse does not change which rows are copied.

Keep the complete weave

The SVG carries the side showing, every strip and all crossing choices, including strips set aside. Open it as a picture, or reopen it here to continue editing. Draft changes and Undo history stay out of the file.

Reopen a kept weave

Choose a complete SVG kept from this table, up to 1 MiB. Review it first; your current weave stays until you choose Replace.

Keep the desk, too.

The HTML editing copy carries this applied weave, the side showing and the complete weaving desk. Open it in a browser with JavaScript enabled to change strips, crossings and repeats without an internet connection. You can reopen kept SVGs, keep a new SVG, or prepare another HTML editing copy there.

Draft changes, Undo history and file reviews stay in this visit. Nothing uploads or saves itself. Each file starts with the weave it was given; prepare and keep a new file to carry later changes.

Company links in the editing copy open the live website and need an internet connection. The SVG is the smaller picture and editable weave; the HTML includes the desk that can open it.
