Parts to Play · the paper desk

From stage
to paper.

Cut the pieces. Back the joints. Give your actors somewhere else to play.

A sample kit is ready. Open a complete scene you kept in Parts to Play, or reopen a printable kit. This desk prepares templates; change shapes and hinges in the original theatre.

A company sample is ready. Open your kept theatre scene to prepare its paper pieces.

Bring your scene.

Open one complete editable scene SVG or a printable HTML kit prepared here. Opening only starts a review. Nothing uploads.

Opened kits use the current print layout; their scene, paper choice and selected pose stay the same.

Scene SVG: up to 1 MiB. Kit HTML: up to 2 MiB. A still picture cannot restore the scene. Changing settings, history or the sheet view cancels an unfinished read.

Applied kit

An introduction

A4 · 210 × 297 mm · 17 pieces · 14 joints.

All pieces share one scale: 0.2 mm per theatre unit. Hidden and offstage pieces are included. The selected pose is a reference; it does not change the cuts.

Paper and pose choices belong to this kit’s 30-step Undo history. Preparing files or selecting a sheet adds no Undo step.

Applied kit: An introduction, committed pose 1. Scene-only reference; the cut sheets include hidden and offstage pieces.
Pose 1 of 3 · stage reference, not an actual-size cutting template.

Every stored piece.

Use the codes beside the cut lines and in the assembly guide. Each listed patch belongs behind its own piece. A digital positioning pivot is not an extra fastener mark; use only the coded joint centres.

No joint backing patch on this piece.

Cut, back, join.

  1. Cut each silhouette and its labelled 8 mm square backing patches separately. Keep the piece and joint codes with them.
  2. Align each patch’s centre cross with the matching mark and glue it behind that piece—even where the square extends beyond its edge. Several joint codes at the same centre share one patch.
  3. Let the glue dry, then pierce the marked centres. Join matching codes with suitable paper fasteners. Never glue two moving pieces together.
  4. Use the front/behind table and stacking order below. The selected pose shows one arrangement, not a guarantee of free movement.

Patches can extend past a silhouette and affect its appearance or movement. Fine points and narrow details may be fragile even when a kit passes the checks.

Check the numbered sheets.

Cutting templates, separate backing patches, matching joint instructions, stacking order and the selected pose travel together.

This preview fits your screen. Print the kept HTML single-sided at actual size / 100%, not “fit to page”. Measure the 50 mm calibration line before cutting. The pose reference is labelled separately from the actual-size pieces.

Keep deliberately

Take the kit with you.

The printable HTML contains all sheets, the complete scene and these paper/pose settings. Open it in a browser to read or print; reopen it here for review. It is not the theatre editor.

The editable SVG opens in Parts to Play to change shapes, hinges, poses and timing. Both kept files contain all actors, names, poses and offstage pieces. Nothing uploads or autosaves; keep a new file after changes.

Printing, cutting, patch registration, adhesive strength, fastener fit and free movement have not been physically tested. These templates preserve your digital joins; they do not guarantee a working puppet.
