LETTER 40
The Timer
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management set the camera on a shelf for the group photograph.
“Ten seconds,” we said.
We pressed the button and hurried to the empty place at the end.
The light blinked.
“Is it working?” someone asked.
We went back to look.
The shutter clicked.
In the picture there was a gap where we had been.
“Once more.”
We pressed the button. This time we stayed beside the shelf to be sure.
The light began to blink faster.
“Come on,” they said.
We ran.
The shutter clicked.
In the picture we had one foot in the air.
We enlarged it.
At the back, a woman was laughing.
“Send me that one,” she said.
We brought everyone back onto the screen.
