LETTER 44
The Suggestion Box
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management opened the suggestion box on Friday.
On our desk were three folders: PREMISES, PROCEDURES and OTHER.
The first slip said that the third stair was loose. It was dated Monday.
We put it in PREMISES.
The next thanked Len for fixing the stair.
It was dated Wednesday.
Len was changing the bulb above the box.
“When did you do the stair?” we asked.
He looked down from the stepladder.
“Tuesday. Mae told me it was loose.”
We put the two slips beside each other.
Then we took out the stamp. It said ACTIONED.
We pressed it onto the Monday slip.
A faint A appeared.
We pressed harder. The paper dented.
Len folded his stepladder.
We took a fresh slip and wrote THE STAMP PAD IS DRY.
Len was still beside the door.
We closed the box and fed our slip through the slot.
