The Sighting
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management joined the bird walk with a new pair of binoculars.
“Just above the fork,” said the woman beside us.
We raised the binoculars. There was a great deal of bark.
“Got it?”
“Yes,” we said.
She stepped aside to let a man stand next to us.
“Could you show him?”
“Of course.”
We lowered the binoculars and pointed at the tree.
“Just there.”
“Where?”
“Above the fork.”
“Which fork?”
“The higher one.”
He raised his binoculars.
“Left or right?”
“Left.”
He moved them a little.
“How far?”
We moved our finger a little.
Further along the path, the woman called us.
He kept his binoculars up.
We kept pointing.
