LETTER 30
The Regular
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management agreed to take our neighbour’s dog round the block.
At the corner, we turned right.
He sat down facing left.
“We haven’t got far,” we said.
He looked past us.
We went left.
At a low gate, he put his nose through the bars.
Before we could knock, a woman came out carrying a cup.
“There you are.”
“We’re only walking him.”
She held the gate open. He went straight under the small table. We followed him in.
The woman looked at her cup and went back inside.
We stood beside the table, holding the lead.
She came out with a second cup.
“Coffee?”
“Please.”
She put it on the table. The dog turned round twice underneath and lay down.
She pushed out a chair with her foot.
We lifted the lead over its back and sat down.
The dog was already asleep.
