The Introductions
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management took a visitor round the building.
He gave us his card. We held it where we could read it.
“Daniel Bell,” we said to Mae.
“Dan! Did you get the wheel off?”
“Eventually.”
She put down her plane. They talked about the bicycle.
We waited until they had finished, then led him to the packing room.
“This is Mr—”
“You left your scarf,” Ruth said.
He took it from the back of a chair.
We checked the card.
At the kettle, he took two mugs off the draining board.
“And you’re?” he asked.
We told him.
He took the card from us and wrote our name on the back.
He held the card with our name facing him.
We read the other side.
