A Good Word
A fictional letter from Management.
Written
Management received a card saying GOOD WORK.
There was no name beneath it.
We took it to the first desk.
“Is this yours?”
“What was the work?”
“It doesn’t say.”
She turned it over. The other side was blank.
At the next desk, a man asked when it had been written. We showed him the envelope.
“Tuesday.”
He thought about Tuesday.
We carried it down the room.
A woman came past with the kettle.
“Someone’s said a good word about us,” we told her.
She put the kettle down and read the card.
“Thanks.”
We looked at her.
“We’ll pass that on,” we said.
